There has been a massive explosion at 11:26 Sunday morning at the Kleen Energy Power Plant on River Rd. in Middletown, CT. The plant was slated to come online in June, 2010. A call for general emergency response has gone out in a 25 mile radius, according to a friend of mine with access to emergency responder channels. Early reports suggest the potential for high casualties, and life flight.helicopter response from as far away as Boston. The explosion rocked the city and could be felt miles away.
More: The site of the plant on River Rd. is easy to locate on Google Earth. It is the only huge industrial facility east of Middletown with power transmission lines running from it. A fairly isolated site in terms of proximity to other infrastructure, but will create a challenge for emergency responders on River Rd.
