Dave Moelling

Underlying all this is the hollowing out of Connecticut. Increasingly it is a place dominated by two groups. People that work in finance (insurance, banking) and people that work for Goverment or government funded activities (government, education, hospitals).

Manufacturing or other service business not tied to government has been driven out of state. A good example is Torrington Corp. The new Democratic party is no longer the party of industrial unions it is the party of government employees and greens. This appeals to the upwardly mobile suburbanites who work in Finance.

Nice work while you can get it but in finance downturns the local economy will take the hit and in any economy options for people outside of these sectors find opportunities limited. (Plus I find it makes for a less pleasant community)
