August may be a slow month for mainstream media news, but there is no shortage of grist for the Blog Carnival mill.
In this week's edition of the Carnival of the Insanities, find out why "You would definitely want to cross the street if you saw" a super high gravity location coming your way.
The Carnival of Family Life is hosted by An Island Life. Decide whether the Isty Bitsy Spider is a model of perseverance or just insane.
Migrations has Tangled Bank #85, where you will discover the real impacts of picking up baby birds and also my post on Rupert Fothergill and Operation Noah.
Finally, Kevin Levin hosts the 55th History Carnival at his superb blog Civil War Memory. Favorite posts from this excellent carnival include Attack of the Giant Negroes and a remembrance of Lady Bird Johnson's humane approach to the Walter Jenkins scandal in which one of President Johnson's aides was arrested for a homosexual liaison and the 1st Lady issued a statement of compassion and support on her own initiative. Fascinating stuff.
Kevin did a marvelous job as Carnival Host and will be a tough act to follow, and in fact the 56th History Carnival will appear on this very blog on September 1st with your humble blogger as its host. The best history related posts written during the month of August are eligible for inclusion. You may submit your own work or nominate someone else's directly to me at greensleevesenviro AT sbcglobal DOT net, or use the carnival submission form.
More: (8/2/2007) Check out the Outdoor Odyssey Blog Carnival to get your top 10 things to do in a survival situation, and the Carnival of Wheels for things automotive.

Jim, I would ask you to raise your objections with Kevin directly and insist that you refrain from using my blog to advance an agenda where the accused cannot defend himself. I will not be made a party to libel.

Kevin Levin discredits himself and his profession by not addressing racial issues at a high enough level. Kevin focuses only on the American South and uses propaganda to try and misinform the public as to the current as well as historical views of Confederate memory. I would view Kevin more as a comedic relic of northern moral fantasy.

Hi!
This is a bit off-topic, but I am running a non-contest this week and thought you and some friends would like to participate.
It's shared stories about leaving home and going to college for the first time.
I would love to hear from you!

Don't forget the Circus of the Spineless at Brit natural history blogger Roger Butterfield's Words and Pictures. Well worth a visit: http://pinguicula.typepad.com/blog/2007/08/circus-of-the-s.html

I think Kevin's hosting History Carnival 55 and you'll be hosting 56.
