The 19th Carnival of Genealogy is all about houses, from the importance of Spring houses to actually living in Carnegie Hall! In related genealogy news, there is a new carnival called "Who's That?" hosted by Untangled Family Roots that is all about figuring out who those people are in all those unidentified tintypes in your archives, and mine.
Finally, let us all praise Bill West, whose ready wit and keen eye for historical detail once again nail the 4th Family Archive Caption Contest. We will now retire both his jersey and the contest until I can find the perfect image that not only gives him a challenge but encourages others to participate! Might take a while. In the meantime, let me present:
"Once they bought the Wickermobile 1900, Thelma and Louise were the terrors of the boardwalk."
These elegant ladies are indeed at the boardwalk in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, circa 1910. My great grandmother Margaret Olmsted Ogden and her mother Mary Athalia Stearns Olmsted (who appeared in the 2nd Caption Contest attired as a Normandy Peasant) are seated in the wicker cart. Carts like these were indeed once used for promenading the boardwalk, though I can't imagine how Bill knew that. Clever guy.
Would you believe I took a guess? That wheel in
the lower front sort of got me thinking where a
contraption like that might be found.
